Israel reportedly used new supersonic Rampage missiles during airstrikes in Syria

Reported to us by: DEFENSENEWS - Mon, 04/15/2019 - 10:35 - [CET]

The Israeli Air Force is reportedly successfully used new supersonic Rampage stand-off air-to-surface missiles for the firі time during a recent airstrike on Syrian military positions.

Israel has reportedly conducted a number of strikes on sites around Masyaf in the predawn hours of Saturday morning. Satellite imagery analysis company ImageSat confirmed that Israel targeted the base in Masyaf.

A large hangar and three nearby buildings were destroyed in the attack on the facility, near the city of Masyaf in the western Hama province, according to the satellite images analyzed and distributed by ImageSat International.

Some sources, included a military analyst Babak Taghvaee, have reported that Israeli Air Force could use for the first time its newest supersonic missile, called the Rampage. A new supersonic air-to-surface missile designed for the annihilation of high-quality targets has been developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Israel Military Industry Systems (IMI).

The new missile is an accurate supersonic, long-range air-to-ground assault missile with a warhead, rocket engine and advanced navigation suit which allows for precision targeting at a very low mission cost compared to existing solutions.

Early, Boaz Levy, General Manager and Executive Vice President of IAI’s Rockets and Space Group told Jane’s that: Rampage is a supersonic all-weather day/night ASM with a stand-off range of 100s of kilometers.

Among the missile features are its ability to control and monitor the extent of its shrapnel, which will make its strike surgical, accurate and with minimum collateral damage despite the fact the missile spends a lot of time in the air from the minute it is launched until it strikes its target.

The missile adjusted to all offense platforms including the Israeli air force F-15, F-16 and F-35 fighter jets and should be used against anti-aircraft batteries, enemy’s headquarters, armament storages, and logistic bases among others.

#Israel Air Force successfully used #Rampage for first time. Due to the danger of #Syria Air Defense Force’s S-300PM-2s, #Israel Air Force had to use the rocket to target a rocket/ ballistic missile factory + weapon warehouses of #IRGC proxies in #Masyaf, #Syria on 13/04/2019: https://t.co/4YjD7ySZ5O

Japan Coast Guard to receive three new 6,000-ton maritime patrol vessels

Reported to us by: DEFENSENEWS - Mon, 04/15/2019 - 10:01 - [CET]

NHK Japan Broadcasting Corporation has reported on 12 April that the Japan Coast Guard expects to receive three new 6,000-ton maritime patrol vessels.

“Three large patrol boats for the Japan Coast Guard are under construction and will be deployed this fiscal year. When they are completed, the Coast Guard will have seven ships of over 6,000 tons,” said in NHK’s media report.

Media were invited to a shipyard in Shimonoseki, western Japan, where one of the new vessels, the Shunko, is being built.

According to media reports in recent weeks, the new maritime patrol vessels will be able to carry two helicopters. Newest vessels will also be equipped with a desalinator to supply the crew with fresh water on long missions.

The first build patrol ship, called Shunko (PLH42), has been given other upgrades to improve its response to emergencies. It will be armed with bigger automatic guns and two water cannons that have never before been mounted on conventional patrol ships of this class.

Despite ranking only 61st in the world in terms of land area (380,000 km2), Japan’s territorial waters and exclusive economic zone combined are 12 times larger (4,470,000 km2) than its land area.

Surrounded on all sides by wide expanses of ocean, Japan is a maritime nation that enjoys the benefits of the sea in the forms of maritime trade and fishing. However, these waters are also plagued by various problems, including maritime accidents, a marine crime such as smuggling and illegal migration, and international disputes over the sovereignty of territorial possessions and maritime resources.

Since its establishment in May 1948, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) has been engaged night and day in a variety of activities, including criminal investigations, maritime security operations, search and rescue work, marine environment preservation, disaster mitigation, oceanographic research, and maritime safety operations, and also working to strengthen collaboration and cooperation with other countries, all so that the people of Japan can use and enjoy the various blessings of the ocean environment.

Coast Guard ships are routinely deployed in response to Chinese patrol vessels that enter Japan’s territorial waters around the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea. Japan controls the islands. The Japanese government maintains the islands are an inherent part of Japan’s territory. China and Taiwan claim them.

People’s Liberation Army use modern hovercraft to patrol a China-Russia border lake

Reported to us by: DEFENSENEWS - Mon, 04/15/2019 - 09:18 - [CET]

Ministry of National Defense of the People’s Republic of China has released new footage showed modern light-weight hovercraft, also known as an air-cushion vehicle or ACV, during its patrol missions at a boundary lake between China and Russia.

A small air cushion patrol boat was attached to a patrol boat group of a frontier defense brigade under the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s ground force and performs its first patrol mission recently in waters of Xingkai Lake, a China-Russia border lake in north China’s Heilongjiang Province, according to a news release.

Lake Xingkai or also called Khanka (Russian name) is a freshwater lake on the border between Primorsky Krai, Russia and Heilongjiang province, Northeast China. Sitting on the border between China and Russia, the lake and its surrounding area attract many tourists to take part in ice and snow sports in winter. But beyond that, the lake also is a zone of tension in Moscow and Beijing for several decades.

A modern Chinese air-cushion vehicle is designed to guard maritime and state borders all year round. The hovercraft can be configured to carry troops or cargo.

A boat can negotiate shallow waters, marshes, shallow snaggy and swift-flowing rivers full of rapids, sandy coast areas, ice, sludge, floating ice during ice freeze-up or motion, snow-covered ice and ground.

According to local sources, the domestic hovercraft, equipped with advanced navigation radar, satellite positioning and video monitoring devices, is specially designed for border defense troops to patrol boundary rivers and lakes.
