The U.S. Army has announced plans to procure more than 160,000 carbines, according to a notice posted by the Army Contracting Command.
A notice posted by the Army Contracting Command-Redstone on 22 March says that the service is to award arms maker company to procure approximately 167,195 M4 and M4A1 carbines.
The M4/M4A1 carbines provide the U.S. Department of Defense with compact, lightweight weapons that fire NATO 5.56mm ammunition from a 30-round magazine, mount the latest generation of fire control accessories and enablers, and provide increased protection and firepower in close quarters.
The period of performance of the contract(s) will be for five (5) one-year ordering periods to cover FY20-FY24 Army and Department of Defense (DoD) M4/M4A1 Carbine requirements, said in a statement.
For reference, the M4 carbine is a shorter and lighter variant of the M16A2 assault rifle. The M4 is a 5.56×45mm NATO, air-cooled, direct impingement gas-operated, magazine-fed carbine.
The M4 carbine is extensively used by the United States Armed Forces and is largely replacing the M16 rifle in U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps combat units as the primary infantry weapon and service rifle.
The weapon delivers superior performance and accuracy for the joint coalition forces conducting the most challenging combat missions. The performance of M4 has been proven across the world in military operations, including combat actions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The US Army has acquired a total of 500,000 M4 carbines since the M4 series was introduced in 1993. The M4 was also exported to the US allied forces and Nato nations as part of foreign military sales (FMS) packages.
Russian social media released a video on Monday showing a flying drone that features a rifle reminiscent of Kalashnikov AK-47.
Video footage of new combat-capable unmanned aerial vehicle with a rifle emerged in late March after Russian arms maker Almaz-Antey filed a patent in February 2018 on what looks like a literal flying AK-47 drone.
According to Futurism.com, a series of images in Almaz-Antey’s patent showed an extremely rudimentary design, featuring a center fuselage with a built-in rifle section and a plane-like wing design — but it evokes a terrifying vision of the future of warfare in which small, expendable drones can pepper enemy troops with small-arms fire.
Meanwhile, it later became known that the new drone is equipped with autoloading smooth-bore Carbine Vepr-12 Hummer features electronic descent and box magazine for 10 rounds.
Flying rifle drone makes shots in automatic mode, continuing to fly with a given course, and if the target is not struck, then you can continue to follow the object without further adjusting the course.
Russia has unveiled a number of unusual drones in recent years, including an underwater drone meant to fight off undersea divers.
Royal Netherlands Air Force is to receive a four new MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft under a contract announced by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) on 21 March.
Scramble, a Dutch aviation magazine, has reported that General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (CA) was awarded a $123 million contract for four MQ-9 Reaper Block 5 UAVs for the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu, Royal Netherlands Air Force).
The contract involves 100% Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and includes the delivery of Mobile Ground Stations, spares and support equipment. All work will be performed at the General Atomics facility in Poway (CA) and is expected to be completed by 31 December 2020.
The MQ-9 Reaper is an armed, multi-mission, medium-altitude, long-endurance remotely piloted aircraft that is employed primarily against dynamic execution targets and secondarily as an intelligence collection asset.
Given its significant loiter time, wide-range sensors, multi-mode communications suite, and precision weapons — it provides a unique capability to perform strike, coordination, and reconnaissance against high-value, fleeting, and time-sensitive targets.
Reapers can also perform the following missions and tasks: intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, close air support, combat search and rescue, precision strike, buddy-lase, convoy/raid overwatch, target development, and terminal air guidance. The MQ-9’s capabilities make it uniquely qualified to conduct irregular warfare operations in support of combatant commander objectives.
The remotely piloted aircraft can be disassembled and loaded into a single container for deployment worldwide. The entire system can be transported in the C-130 Hercules, or larger aircraft. The MQ-9 aircraft operates from standard U.S. airfields with clear line-of-sight to the ground data terminal antenna, which provides line-of-sight communications for takeoff and landing. The PPSL provides over-the-horizon communications for the aircraft and sensors.

According to a statement released by the India Air Force, first four Chinook helicopters were inducted during the official ceremony at Air Force Station, Chandigarh, in Squadron No 126 Helicopter Flight (Featherweights).
Also noted that the helicopters which had come from the US ahead of time arrived in a semi-knocked down (SKD) condition at Mundra Port in Gujarat, were re-assembled and tested before the formal induction today.
On September 28, 2015, the Indian Ministry of Defense signed a package of contracts worth $ 3 billion for the purchase of 22 AH-64E Apache Guardian combat helicopters and 15 CH-47F (I) Chinook transport helicopters with the US government and Boeing Corporation. Contract options include 11 more AN-64E helicopters and seven CH-47F (I) helicopters.
The CH-47F (I) Chinook is an advanced multi-mission helicopter operated by the U.S. Army and 18 other defense forces. The Chinook has proven its ability to operate in the range of conditions that typify the Indian subcontinent, including delivering heavy payloads to high altitudes.
India is the 19th nation to select the Chinook.
According to Boeing, India ultimately will receive 15 CH-47F(I) Chinook transport helicopters.
