JLTV tactical vehicle turns into tank hunter

Reported to us by: DEFENSENEWS - Wed, 04/17/2019 - 11:46 - [CET]

Newest  U.S. Armed Forces Joint Light Tactical Vehicle or JLTV will receive new weapon station armed with Javelin anti-tank guided weapon.

On 16 April, Scott Gourley has released on its Twitter account photo of JLTV fitted with an LW 30 weapon station with an M230 LF cannon and coaxial Javelin anti-tank missile.

The LW 30 weapon station, commonly known as Protector RWS-LW30, is armed with a 30 mm dual-feed cannon and offer modularity for single weapon, dual weapon and even triple weapon configuration where the M230LF main weapon, 7.62mm coax weapon and a Javelin ATM can be installed simultaneously.

This flexibility and modularity provides the capability for high power arms for many operational needs and switching between the installed weapons is easily performed by the operator from the intuitive Human Machine Interface.

The Javelin anti-tank missile, installed on the roof of JLTV turned him to tank hunter and provides capabilities to engage enemy tanks or heavy combat vehicles.

According to Scott Gourley, the new version of JLTV with Javelin was unveiled during Bushmaster User Conference in Arizona.

For reference, the newest family of JLTV developed to replace ageing HMMWVs currently in service with U.S. infantry forces including the Army and the U.S. Marine Corps.

As previously reported, the JLTV family of vehicles comes in different variants—general purpose, heavy guns carrier, utility, and close combat weapons carrier—all providing protected, sustained, networked mobility that balances payload, performance and protection across the full range of military operations.

China receives final batch of Su-35 fighter aircraft from Russia

Reported to us by: DEFENSENEWS - Wed, 04/17/2019 - 10:57 - [CET]

China’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) received the final batch of Sukhoi Su-35 ‘Flanker-E’ multirole fighter aircraft from Russia.

Russia’s Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation told TASS on Tuesday that Russia has completed the deliveries of Sukhoi Su-35 generation 4++ fighter jets to China under a contract signed earlier.

“In compliance with the contract, all the Su-35 planes have been delivered to the foreign customer,” the Federal Service said.

The contract for Russian 24 multirole fighter aircraft is valued at more than $2.5 billion and was signed in 2015. The deal also stipulates the delivery of ground equipment and reserve engines. China had received the first 4 Su-35 fighters in 2016.

China has been the first foreign buyer of Russian Su-35 fighter aircraft. Indonesia is the second foreign buyer of Russian Su-35 fighter jets.

Reports emerged in early 2018 that Russia had signed a contract with Indonesia on the delivery of 11 fighters. Under the contract, Russia is due to deliver the first fighter jets to Indonesia this year. The fulfillment of the Indonesian contract ran across some difficulties related to US sanctions but a TASS source in military and diplomatic circles said these difficulties “are not critical” and should not affect the deliveries of fighter jets.

The Su-35S generation 4++ supersonic fighter jet performed its debut flight on February 19, 2008. The fighter jet is a derivative of the Su-27 plane. The Su-35S weighs 19 tonnes, has a service ceiling of 20,000 meters, can develop a maximum speed of 2,500 km/h and has a crew of one pilot. The fighter jet’s armament includes a 30mm aircraft gun, up to 8 tonnes of the weapon payload (missiles and bombs of various types) on 12 underwing hardpoints. The Su-35S has been in service with the Russian Army since 2015.

Ukraine completes deliveries of second batch of new 100mm rounds for BMP-3 of foreign customer

Reported to us by: DEFENSENEWS - Wed, 04/17/2019 - 10:10 - [CET]

Ukraine’s state-owned defense industrial company SpetsTeсhnoExport has completed the delivery of the second batch of new 100mm rounds for BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle of foreign customer, according to a company official.

In 2017 SpetsTechoExport successfully exported the first batch of the Ukrainian 100 mm rounds for BMP-3 of foreign customer, and a few months ago – already the second batch, head of the department of the SpetsTeсhnoExport Anton Pashynskyi said on Facebook on 16 April.

In his post head of the department stated, “The round is completely new – if even nobody is impressed with the production of the case and filling it with explosives, the design and serial production of shell case is a big achievement.”

The BMP-3 infantry combat vehicle entered production in the late 1980s. About several hundred BMP-3 vehicles are in service with the Russia Army and over 900 have been exported to a number of countries, including United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, Indonesia, Kuwait, Venezuela, Iraq and South Korea.

“The technical parameters of the vehicle were revolutionary in 80th, but even today they outclass many competitors: light aluminum armor hull, which even with the high level of protection saved capability to overcome water obstacles and twinned cannons 30 mm and 100 mm, with the capability to hit the targets with the main gun in the range up to 7,5 km,” added Anton Pashynskyi.

He also stressed that the 100 mm cannon is unique, the ammunition even in USSR times was produced only by Russian military industry. But only until now.
