Africa is a continent with a very high linguistic diversity, there are an estimated 1500-2000 African languages. gathering approximately 140 languages with some eleven millions speakers scattered in Central and Eastern Africa. Here you find some language books for learning Ethiopic, Somali, Yoruba, Oromo, Xhosa and Shona. And one book about Egyptian hieroglyphs.

Number of speakers. About 1.4 million people speak Amdo Tibetan and most of these people do not speak or understand other dialects. Tibetan is officially divided into three dialects, corresponding to the three geographic and cultural areas of Tibet: Utsang (or Central), Khams and Amdo.

The official language of Greece is Greek, and it's spoken by 99% of the population. The language is spoken by at least 13.2 million people today in Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Albania and Turkey. In addition, a number of non-official, minority languages and some Greek dialects are spoken as well.

Around 260 million people use it as their first language. Many more people can also understand it, but not as a first language. It is written with the Arabic alphabet, which is written from right to left, like Hebrew.

Native speakers: 750,000 and about 1,185,500 passive speakers. A language spoken in the Basque Country, a region that straddles the westernmost Pyrenees in adjacent parts of northern Spain and southwestern France. Linguistically, Basque is unrelated to the other languages of Europe and is a language isolate to any other known living language.

Native speakers: 4.1 million; Total number of speakers: More than 10 million. Catalan is a Western Romance language derived from Vulgar Latin and named after the medieval Principality of Catalonia, in northeastern modern Spain.

Native speakers 10.7 million. Spoken by over 10 million people, it serves as the official language of the Czech Republic. Czech is closely related to Slovak, to the point of mutual intelligibility to a very high degree. Like other Slavic languages, Czech is a fusional language with a rich system of morphology and relatively flexible word order.

Native speakers: 22 million; Total speakers: 28 million (2018). Dutch is a West Germanic language spoken by around 23 million people as a first language and 5 million people as a second language, constituting the majority of people in the Netherlands (where it is the sole official language and Belgium (as one of three official languages).

1.8 billion people knows much or a little English. English is a West Germanic language that was first spoken in early medieval England and eventually became a global lingua franca. It is named after the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes that migrated to the area of Great Britain. The area later took their name, England.

The Estonian language is the official language of Estonia, spoken by about 1.1 million people: 922,000 people in Estonia and 160,000 outside Estonia. Estonian is closely related to Finnish and belongs to the Finnic branch of the Uralic language family.

There are an estimated 274 million French speakers around the world. French is an official language in 29 countries across multiple different continents. Native speakers= 76.8 million. French is a Romance language of the Indo-European family. It descended from the Vulgar Latin of the Roman Empire, as did all Romance languages.

Native speakers: 3.7 million. Georgian (ქართული ენა, translit.: kartuli ena, pronounced [kʰɑrtʰuli ɛnɑ]) is a Kartvelian language spoken by Georgians. It is the official language of the country Georgia. Georgian is written in its own writing system, the Georgian script.

Speakers: 95 million. German (or Deutsch) is a West Germanic language that is mainly spoken in Central Europe. It is the most widely spoken and official or co-official language in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, South Tyrol (Italy), the German-speaking Community of Belgium, and Liechtenstein.

Speakers: 13 million. Hungarian is a Finno-Ugric language, which is a member of the Uralic language family. The group of Finno-Ugric languages also includes Finnish, Estonian, Lappic (Sámi) and some other languages spoken in the Russian Federation. Out of these it is Khanty and Mansi that are the most closely related to Hungarian.

Approximately 63 million people in the world speak Italian as their first language. An additional 3 million speak Italian as a second language. Various sources differ slightly, but Italian is around the 20th most-spoken language in the world. Italians speak Italian.

The Klingon language (Klingon: tlhIngan Hol) is a language that was made for the Klingons in the Star Trek Universe. It is a constructed language, not one that developed naturally. Only a few people can speak the Klingon language well enough to talk in it.

The Korean language has an estimated 80 million speakers across the world. Korean, also called Hangul (한국말), is the official language of both North and South Korea. The Hanguk dialect is spoken in South Korea. Although Korean might be ranked as one of the more difficult languages to learn by the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), it is by no means impossible.

390,000 people speak Luxembourgish worldwide. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg - a small country landlocked by Belgium, France and Germany - is a prominent financial centre. With roots stretching back to the 10th century, Luxembourg's history is closely intertwined with that of its more powerful neighbours, especially Germany.

Indonesia is the fourth most populous nation in the world. Of its large population, the majority speak Indonesian, making it one of the most widely spoken languages in the world with 43 million native speakers and 156 million L2 speakers. Malay is spoken in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, East Timor, Singapore, parts of Thailand and southern Philippines.

There are over 50 million Polish language speakers around the world and it is one of the official languages of the European Union. Poland, officially the Republic of Poland, is a country located in Central Europe. It is divided into 16 administrative subdivisions, covering an area of 312,696 square kilometres, and has a largely temperate seasonal climate.

With 155 million native speakers throughout central and Eastern Europe and in Russia, it's the eighth most common language in the world and the second most used in website content, after English.

Native speakers: 14,135. Sanskrit is a language of ancient India with a history going back about 3,500 years. It is the primary liturgical language of Hinduism and the predominant language of most works of Hindu philosophy as well as some of the principal texts of Buddhism and Jainism.

Estimates show that about 1% of the total population is born Deaf and another %-factor will become Deaf later in life. Those who are born Deaf, are the most likely to learn and speak a qualified Signed language. Learning to sign is easier than ever, thanks to the internet.

Spanish or Castilian, is a Western Romance language that originated in the Castile region of Spain and today gets spoken by more than 437 million people in the Americas and Spain. It qualifies as second on the list of biggest languages by number of native speakers after Mandarin Chinese.

Around 5 million people speak Swahili as a native language, and a further 135 million speak is as a second language. The language dates from the contacts of Arabian traders with the inhabitants of the east coast of Africa over many centuries.

Thai is the official language of Thailand, natively spoken by, according to Ethnologue, over 20 million people (2000). In reality, the number of native Thai speakers is likely to be much higher, since the Thai people of ethnic Chinese origins throughout the country learn it as their first language.

Around 8 million people speak Tibetic languages worldwide, and the Tibetic languages (Tibetan: བོད་སྐད།) are a cluster of Tibeto-Burman languages descended from Old Tibetan, spoken across a wide area of eastern Central Asia bordering the Indian subcontinent, including the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalayas in Baltistan, Ladakh, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan and Arunachal...

Native speakers: 75.7 million. Turkish, also referred to as Istanbul Turkish, is the most widely spoken of the Turkic languages, with around ten to fifteen million native speakers in Southeast Europe and sixty to sixty-five million native speakers in Western Asia.

It is native to around 37 million people, and additionally, it’s the second language for another 15 million. The Ukrainian language is one of the most widespread Slavic languages ​​in the world, second only to Russian. Ranked by the number of native speakers, Ukrainian is the 26th most spoken language in the world.

Vietnamese is among the 20 most spoken languages in the world, spoken by around 80 million people worldwide. Vietnamese (tiếng Việt) is the only official language in Vietnam. It is the first or second language of many ethnic minorities in Vietnam, but some mountain tribes also speak a language of their own.
